The company clarified that 53% of cargo volumes in the last winter month were exported.
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia carried a record 14.5 million tons of cargo in February of this year. This was a third higher than in February 2023, and 3% higher than January’s figure. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov on his Facebook page on Friday, March 1.
“This indicates stability in increasing export volumes and fulfilling our main task – reaching the 2021 indicator,” the official assured.
The company’s press service clarified that 53% of the cargo volume was exported. Specifically, 5.2 million tons of cargo were exported through the port’s railway stations in February, and 2.6 million tons through the western border crossings. 2.8 million tons of grain cargo was transported through port stations, and 537 thousand tons through western border crossings.
In domestic traffic, which gave way to exports in terms of volume, more than 5.8 million tons were delivered in February, which is 6% higher than the figure in February 2023.
Import transportation in February increased by 65% - to 872.4 thousand tons compared to February 2023.
Ukrzaliznytsia believes that the growth in cargo transportation in February was facilitated by the active work of the Ukrainian sea corridor. Exports through the sea corridor reached a record 8 million tons in February.
It was previously reported that in January 2024, UZ also delivered a record volume of 7.5 million tons of cargo.
As we have already written, Polish farmers tried to block rail traffic across the border.
Subsequently, due to the blocking of the border by Polish farmers, Ukrainian carriers began to protest at three checkpoints with Poland.
