The ban was introduced for six months to “stabilize prices in the domestic market.” Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries reduced fuel exports from Russia by a third.
The Russian government has banned the export of gasoline for six months from March 1, Meduza reported on Tuesday, February 27.
According to the publication, such plans to combat fuel price increases were reported by the pro-Kremlin RBC agency, citing a government source, and then the information was confirmed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who instituted a ban on the export of gasoline. “to level out the rapid demand for petroleum products”.
The temporary export ban does not apply to supplies to EAEU countries, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
According to Meduza, exchange prices for AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline, as well as summer diesel fuel in Russia have increased by 8-23% since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the growth rate of wholesale prices was significantly lower, and at retail gasoline and diesel became even cheaper.
The publication notes that the Russian government has repeatedly banned the export of gasoline to stabilize prices on the domestic market. Thus, the last time such a regulatory measure was applied was in September 2023; in November it was announced that the export ban would be lifted.
Let’s recall that earlier this month it was reported that Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries reduced fuel exports from Russia by a third.
