The procurement agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine concluded the first direct contract with a Swedish manufacturer.
The Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense has awarded the first direct contract to a Swedish manufacturer. This happened during the visit of Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson to Ukraine, the department’s press service reported on Monday, February 26.
The contract was made possible thanks to the support of the Swedish Defense Materials Administration FMV as part of a cooperation agreement between the FMV and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which was signed at the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023.
Cooperation with the Swedish Defense Materials Administration allows us to accelerate the development of our own agency and carry out additional procurement, relying on the best European experience in the transparency of the process of procurement of the necessary products by using and implementation of the best models in Europe.
The action plan agreed by the parties in early February in Stockholm, in addition to the planned contracts, provides the opportunity to join the current Swedish purchase today.
Let’s recall that the previous Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal spoke about “big changes” in the production of shells in Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the combined capacity of Ukraine and the EU would exceed Russia’s arms production.
