The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company is preparing to launch barge container caravans on the Middle and Upper Danube.
While Ukrainian exporters and carriers are once again facing blockades at western border checkpoints, an alternative logistics route from Ukraine to the EU has been developed – river transport along the Danube. The press service of the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure reported this on Friday, February 16.
It was reported that the National Carrier – ChAO Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP) is preparing to launch barge container caravans on the Middle and Upper Danube.
The shipping company offers delivery of containers to the Danube ports of Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Germany and the Romanian port of Constanta. In addition to transportation, the company provides storage and transshipment in Ukrainian ports, and organization of transshipment in Alwas port, the ministry said in a statement.
UDP has started consultations with carriers to attract the required number of containers needed to build the first caravans.
Last year, the UDP implemented a large-scale program overhaul – 25 units of the self-propelled fleet are in operation (20 are in reserve) and more than 200 barges. So the company has enough resources and capabilities to intercept the flow of containers through vehicles, the Ministry of Infrastructure added.
Earlier it was reported that the Poles blocked the sixth checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.
Let us remind you that on February 9, Polish farmers began blockading the border with Ukraine, demanding the cancellation of the decision on duty-free trade between Ukraine and the EU. On February 20, Polish farmers will block all border crossings between Poland and Ukraine. The blockade will also affect roads to railway transshipment stations and ports.
Due to protests by Polish farmers on the border with Ukraine, there are problems with the delivery of humanitarian aid.
