The main focus of the European Union is to ensure support for Ukraine and the earliest possible rejection of Russian gas, emphasized Kadri Simson.
EU countries are not interested in extending the contract for gas transit from Russia, as they have alternative options to ensure the security of gas supplies. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, the report of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
A return to normal relations with Russia is impossible, the European official said.
“The EU is not interested in extending the gas transit contract with the Russians. We have been preparing for the end of this contract for two years when the manipulations on the gas market began, and we have alternative options to ensure the security of supply. Our main focus now is to ensure maximum support to Ukraine and an early rejection of Russian gas,” he stressed.

Let’s remember that the media reported that the European Union still imports 50% of Russian liquefied gas, and dozens of European countries are buyers of Russian LNG.
At the same time, Spain, Belgium and France increased their LNG imports from Russia.
