The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rheinmetall plant will take place tomorrow in the city of Unterlus, Lower Saxony. The ceremony will be attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz along with Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen.
“Increasing industrial ammunition production capacity helps ensure the supply of ammunition to the Bundeswehr and our NATO and EU partners. In addition, almost two years after the start of the war of occupation by Russia against Ukraine, Germany is sending a signal of our continued military support for Ukraine,” said Goffmann.
It has been indicated that Rheinmetall plans to increase production of 155 mm artillery ammunition. At the new plant, the concern will produce 200 thousand shells, explosives and rocket engines annually.
It was previously known that Rheinmetall will produce shells for Ukraine for 142 million euros. The customer of the ammunition is a NATO partner country that has expressed its intention to support Ukraine, the concern noted.
Rheinmetall is Ukraine’s largest partner. In particular, in 2022 the group accepted orders worth approximately 900 million euros, and in 2023 the volume of orders increased to approximately 2.5 billion euros.
