Regulations on the Facility of Ukraine will finally be approved by the European Parliament in the plenary session on February 26-29.
Ukraine expects to receive the first payment from the European Union in the amount of 4.5 billion in March under the Ukraine Facility program approved by the European Council on Thursday. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko on Facebook on February 1.
“The government is currently working on an appropriate transition financing agreement with European partners,” he wrote.
According to Sviridenko, now the European Council must, together with the European Commission and the European Parliament, agree on the final terms of the program, after which the regulations of the Ukrainian Facility will be approved by the European Parliament at the plenary session in February 26-29.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the program was created according to the model in which the EU funds its members, and recalled that in preparation for the Ukrainian Facility, the Ukrainian side worked on its own plan for the implementation of this program .
“When the European Parliament approves the regulations, we will consider its final conditions in the plan. Our consultations with European partners have continued since the beginning of work on the document, and together we will complete its preparation in accordance with adopted program,” he said.
According to Sviridenko, after the approval of the government, the document will be submitted for consideration to the European Commission, and the final approval from the EU will allow the program to be launched as soon as possible.
We remind you that in 2024, Ukraine’s total external financing needs are estimated at $37 billion. This amount has previously been reduced by nearly $4 billion.
As you know, the US Congress had a hard time agreeing to more than $60 billion for Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky expressed hope that “the United States will not betray us.”
