The main company of the mobile operator VEON Ltd states that 3.6 billion hryvnias will be spent on canceling monthly bills for its customers.
Mobile operator Kyivstar did not experience significant financial losses as a result of a large-scale cyber attack in December of last year, but will lose 3.6 billion hryvnias in revenue as a result of the cancellation of monthly service fees for customers this as compensation. This is a preliminary estimate of the financial impact of the cyberattack, which led to the complete suspension of the mobile operator in December, parent company VEON Ltd said in a press release.
VEON does not expect a significant impact on its financial results due to disruptions in Kyivstar services and costs associated with expanding IT capabilities to restore services, replace lost equipment or compensate external consultant and partner in 2023.
“However, the company expects that the loss of revenue as a result of the customer loyalty measures taken by Kyivstar to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the outages is estimated at approximately 3.6 billion Hryvnia (approximately $95 million), ” said the statement.
Kyivstar will continue to work on compensation in the coming months, but these costs are currently impossible to estimate.
As we already wrote, cyber specialists of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked 15 websites of enterprises involved in engineering support for Russian troops.
In addition, Ukrainian hackers, with the support of the SBU, destroyed the IT infrastructure of the Russian company Rosvodokanal.
