The European Commission is preparing a draft resolution to extend the duty-free regime for Ukrainian exports until mid-2025.

The European Commission, “despite protests” from neighboring countries, is preparing a draft resolution to extend the duty-free regime for Ukrainian exports until mid-2025. This was announced by the Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Sekierski in an interview with Business Insider.

The Polish official assures that the problem of negative consequences of imports from Ukraine is allegedly becoming more and more noticeable in countries not only in Eastern, but also in Western Europe. France, Austria and Germany are said to be discussing the threat to grain, poultry, fruit and sugar markets.

Sekersky said that in 2022-2023. Three-quarters of Ukrainian grain exports went to Ukraine’s neighboring countries, which “caused serious market disruption.”

The Minister of Agriculture of Poland, within the framework of the Grune Woche fair, which will begin in Berlin on January 18, will hold negotiations with the ministers of other countries on the import of Ukrainian goods to Poland and the EU.

Sekierski emphasized that Poland has the political will to develop transit infrastructure for the export of Ukrainian products.

“We will work on the development of the port infrastructure. Previously, unfortunately, there were few significant steps in this area. Therefore, to streamline and improve the possibilities for the transfer of agricultural raw materials from Ukraine, it will be necessary to cooperate with other ministries in the development of port, railway, and warehouse infrastructure”, – said the minister.

He added that Poland is counting on more active support from the European Commission and support for the development of Polish port and railway infrastructure using EU funds.

We remind you that Czeslaw Sekierski also said that the European Commission rejected Poland’s request to renew the tariff quotas for some Ukrainian products.

We would like to add that the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has signed an agreement with the organizers of the blockade. The protesters agreed to suspend their protest until at least March 1, awaiting a solution to their problems by the new Polish government.
