A man who won $986,000 in the lottery says he was forced to give the money to his daughter.
Australian William John Bampton, who won a $986,000 jackpot in March 2018, had a falling out with his family. The Mirror reported this.
Bampton paid a deposit on the four-bedroom house shortly after winning the lottery, Brisbane District Court ruled this month.
He paid a down payment of $50,000 and then paid the remaining $505.03 to buy the house outright with his son.
In the following months, the winner also donated $300,000 to his daughter, Suzanne Elaine Wurlides. But their relationship soured after the man, now 92 years old, demanded money. William John Bampton began to say he was forced to give money to his son and felt he had “no other choice”.
This caused a great rift in the family, and Bampton began to distance himself from his children.
A huge legal dispute broke out between the man and the children, as a result of which the judge ruled in favor of his daughter.
“Although Mr Bampton is elderly and has certain medical conditions, the medical evidence shows that he has full capacity, understanding and ability to manage his financial affairs,” Judge Suzanne Sheridan ruled last month.
It was previously reported that the £148 million Euromillion prize winner claimed he ruined his life, destroyed his relationships and turned his family against him.
