Overall, global smartphone shipments are down 3.2%, reaching 1.17 billion units in 2023.
Apple for the first time surpassed Samsung in the global smartphone market by the end of 2023 and became its leader. This is stated in a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
“In the second half of 2023, we see significant growth from budget Android players like Transition and Xiaomi, driven by strong growth in emerging markets. But the biggest winner is definitely Apple,” said director of research in the Worldwide team IDC Tracker Nabila Popal .
According to him, Apple is not only the only player in the top three to show year-on-year positive growth, but it will also take the first place in the ranking for the first time.
“This is despite increasing regulatory challenges and renewed competition from Huawei in China’s largest market. Apple’s long-term success and stability is largely due to growing demand for premium devices, which now constitute of more than 20% of the market, fueled by aggressive trade-in and interest-free financing plans,” said Popal.
Previously, Samsung lost its leadership in 2010, when a third of the market belonged to Nokia.
Global smartphone shipments fell 3.2% to reach 1.17 billion units in 2023, according to IDC.
We remind you that people from Apple presented a gadget that can “replace” a smartphone.
