Over the past six months, milk prices have increased by almost a third, which has a negative impact on the availability of dairy products in Ukraine.
Prices for raw milk in Ukraine will increase in the second half of 2023. This was reported by the press service of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine.
In December last year, prices for raw milk exceeded the level of 15 UAH/kg, while in July they averaged 11.6 UAH/kg – an increase of 30%.
According to experts, the December price level for raw milk in Ukraine, in terms of euros and taking into account the average European supply bases (€41.4/100 kg), was the highest in at least the last 10 years.
The price above €40/100 kg (mean €40.7/100 kg) was observed only once in Ukraine during this period – in November 2021 – and this was the result of a significant revaluation of the hryvnia.
Analysts note that in 2023, the corresponding price level was also reached in November, but in December 2023, unlike the situation two years ago, prices continued to rise (another + 2%), which reaching a historic maximum.
According to experts, this negatively affects the affordability of dairy products within the country, and therefore their competitiveness, as well as the level of household spending on this type of food product.
Let’s recall that previous Ukrainian officials warned about a possible increase in food prices in 2024 and warned that consumption may have to be reduced. Meanwhile, world food prices fell by 11% over the year.
