The planes must be retested, after which the agency will review the results and determine whether the MAX 9 is safe enough to continue flying.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has extended the ban on the operation of Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft indefinitely. Reuters reported this on Saturday, January 13.

The US aviation regulator said it would need another round of inspections before considering returning the planes to service.

“Under stricter oversight, the regulator will conduct an audit of Boeing’s 737 MAX 9 production line and suppliers, and will also consider having an independent organization take over from Boeing for some aspect of new aircraft safety certification that the FAA previously required of the aircraft manufacturer,” the agency wrote.

The agency said 40 aircraft must be re-inspected, after which the agency will review the results and determine if the safety level is sufficient to resume MAX 9 flights.

Note that on January 5, 2024, Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX 9 (flight 1282) tore off its emergency exit door while in flight. There were 171 passengers and six crew members on board. After that, Alaska Airlines released all of its 65 MAX 9s for inspection.

As we wrote earlier, in the capital of Russian Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, a TU-204 cargo plane caught fire while flying. They managed to get him down and there were no casualties.

Earlier it was reported that in the Russian Federation five planes were damaged while flying in two days.
