The Danube ports remained one of the most reliable export routes to Ukraine during the war.
Ukrainian cargo turnover through the Danube ports hit a record in 2023 and reached more than 29 million tons, which is almost six times higher than in the pre-war period. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Reconstruction on Monday, January 8.
“In the conditions of an unstable security situation in the Black Sea, the Danube ports remained one of the most reliable export routes. That is why a large part of the efforts aimed at -optimize the operation of these ports,” said the head of the Administration of Sea ports of Ukraine Yuriy Lytvyn.
According to him, in 2023, more than 29 million tons of cargo will pass through the Danube ports. This is an increase of almost six times compared to the pre-war period. Also, the number of shipyards increased to 13,045 units compared to 8,944 in 2022.
Along with the business, 23 transshipment points were launched in 2023, and it is planned to implement 15 more investment projects in the ports of Izmail and Reni.
Let’s remember that, according to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, the total investment in the infrastructure of the Danube ports has reached approximately $100 million.
Earlier, the member countries of the Danube Commission decided to exclude Russia due to its missile and drone attacks on the Lower Danube.
