At the same time, the European Commissioner proposes to support Ukrainian transit in the ports of the European Union.
The excessive import of agricultural products from Ukraine may cause a new crisis in the countries of the European Union. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski in a letter to the leadership of the European Commission, writes RMF24.
According to media reports, the Polish politician intends to block the decision to extend the regime of trade preferences for Ukraine by the EU.
Voitsekshovsky believes that the new document should include provisions to limit exports from Ukraine, similar to those already applied by the European Union to Ukrainian rapeseed, corn, sunflower and grain.
The Polish commissioner also requests quantitative restrictions on the import of sugar and chicken meat, the import of which, in his opinion, is growing rapidly and is full of destabilization of the EU market.
“The extension of trade privileges for Ukraine contained in the EU regulation, which expires this year, without protective clauses and quantitative restrictions threatens to trigger a new crisis of excessive production of agricultural products imported from Ukraine,” Wojciechowski wrote.
At the same time, in the letter, the European Commissioner proposes to support Ukrainian transit to EU seaports, from where Ukrainian grain will be transported to African or Asian markets.
Let’s recall that in the spring of 2023, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia introduced a ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. This is due to the fact that imports greatly influence prices in the domestic markets of states. Later, this decision was introduced at the level of the European Commission. It is valid until September 15.
After this, it is expected that the import ban will be completely lifted. But Poland, Hungary and Slovakia decided to continue such measures unilaterally.
Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Sekierski said that the embargo on Ukrainian products is not certain – until a separate order to lift it.
