Import of cash currency to Ukraine in October – November 2023 exceeded $1 billion per month.
The volume of cash currency imports to Ukraine in October and November 2023 increased accordingly to the equivalent of $1.56 billion and $1.33 billion. This is discussed in the statistics of the National Bank of Ukraine, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
For comparison, $577.7 million was imported in September, and $435.2 million in August.
The lion’s share is occupied by US dollars and euros, which in November accounted for 78.7% and 20.5% of all imported cash currencies, respectively.
According to the NBU, the supply of dollars in recent months has increased significantly – from 282.7-296.7 million dollars in August-September to 778.6-813.8 million dollars in October-November, while the euro – from 143. 7 – 172.3 million to 268.8 -211.6 million
During the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the largest volume of foreign currency imports was recorded in January-May 2023, when they averaged more than $800 million and, on average, 96% were consists of dollars, but in the summer they decrease. significantly, at the same time, the share of the euro rose to 30% or more.
In addition, in recent months, the National Bank recorded gold imports worth about $7-8 million, as well as a very small supply of pound sterling (more than $1 million) and Polish zlotys (up to $1 million).
We remind you that from the fall of 2022, the NBU is gradually removing restrictions on the operation of the cash market. Further easing, including the abandonment of the fixed official exchange rate from October 3 and the transition to a regime of controlled flexibility, led to a reduction in the spread between the cash and non-cash market rates in 2% at the end of last year.
The National Bank raised the dollar exchange rate to another historic high. The official exchange rate on January 9 is set at UAH 38.1920. for 1 dollar.
