The company said the investigation into the cyberattack is ongoing, and no version is yet final.
The Kyivstar company does not confirm the information that hackers allegedly had access “inside” the company to subscribers’ personal data for months and leaked it. Company representative Irina Lelichenko announced this on Thursday, January 4.
He spoke about this after a statement by the head of the cybersecurity department of the SBU, Ilya Vityuk, according to which, the Russians have been in the system at least since May 2023.
“The official investigation into the cyber attack on the Kyivstar network, which took place on December 12, 2023, continues and various versions are considered and voiced, but until the official completion of the investigation, none of them can be considered which is final. All information about the progress of the cyber attack investigation is available on the official website of the SBU, which is directly involved in this process,” Lelichenko wrote.
He assured that no fact of leakage of subscribers’ personal data was found during the investigation. Currently, the Kyivstar network operates as usual and provides subscribers with all basic services.
“Kyivstar has already applied additional measures for cyber protection, in particular, strengthened access control, introduced additional control systems for servers and workstations,” Lelichenko said, adding that the company plans next steps to strengthen cyber security.
We remind you that on December 12, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, Kyivstar, experienced a cyber attack, the consequences of which lasted at least 48 hours, affecting the company’s mobile and data services. As a result of the cyber attack, more than half of the population of Ukraine was left without mobile and Internet communications. Kyivstar said that no leaks of clients’ personal data have been recorded.
