Nigerian Onoh Chukwuma committed suicide after losing 2.5 million Nigerian naira ($3,000) in bets. Before his death, he posted a message on his Facebook wall about his intention to commit suicide.
He lost money in a bet and couldn’t handle the shame and pressure.
“Today is my last day on earth! I will meet my Creator. Thank you Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onuma, Ekwueme Ohafia and my friends. My spirit is with you all,” he wrote.
Friends, not knowing what to do, rushed Chukwuma to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the doctors, the insecticide the man ingested killed him.
Reports suggest that Chukwuma’s probable suicide was due to the extreme pressure and shame he felt after losing a large sum of money in gambling. He reportedly lent 1.5 million ($1,800) in addition to his own 1 million ($1,200) to increase his exposure to rates, leading to financial strain and increased pressure from creditors.
Chukwuma’s death has sparked debate about the dangers of gambling addiction and the importance of seeking help for mental health. Friends and family took to his Facebook page to share their condolences and express their grief.
We remind you that a state standard for the rehabilitation of gambling addicts will appear in Ukraine.
