A man received his $500,000 prize from the Indiana Lottery after a retailer mistakenly tore up his winning ticket.
An American won $500,000 in the Hoosier lottery, but the lucky ticket was accidentally torn by the seller. Casino.org reported this.
In particular, a man named Paul Marshall found out that he had won the lottery and returned with a valuable ticket to the store where he bought it to have it checked.
The store checked and confirmed his ticket. But because lottery retailers cannot pay out winnings of more than $600, he was given a printed sheet with instructions on how to contact the claims department.
After that, the seller quickly tore up the ticket and threw it in the trash.
When the man arrived at the complaints center, he gave written instructions to the lottery staff, but he did not have a winning ticket and they refused to pay. He spoke out about the situation, so lottery officials visited the retail outlet and watched the video, which confirmed Marshall’s story. So they decided to pay the winner a jackpot of $500,000.
As for the store clerk, the lottery commission said it was muscle memory. He was so used to dealing with lost tickets that he threw them out of habit.
It was previously reported that a woman from the Midlands said no one believed her when she said she won $300,000 on a scratch ticket.
