No word yet on who bought the winning lottery ticket. All we know is that it was bought in California.

A California resident, whose name has not been released, won $1.76 billion from the Powerball lottery. This is the second largest jackpot in history. The BBC reported it.

Obviously the winner has yet to collect his own winnings. However, he had a choice between paying back his winnings over 30 years or paying a lump sum of $774.1 million.

The winning ticket, worth two dollars, was purchased at Midway Market & Liquor in Fraser Park, 70 miles north of Los Angeles.

According to Powerball, the drawing has a one in 292.2 million chance of winning the jackpot.

It was previously reported that Amil Patel, an employee of the American football club Jacksonville Jaguars, stole $22 million, beating most bets.
