The border blockade will begin on December 11 at 15:00. The border will be blocked for cargo traffic.
Slovak carriers announced the continuation of the blockade of the border with Ukraine at the Vyshne Nemetske – Uzhgorod crossing. This was stated in a statement by the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) on Facebook on Sunday, December 10.
The border blockade will begin on Monday, December 11, at 15:00 and will last until “the demands of the carriers are met.” The border will be blocked for cargo traffic, passenger traffic will not be restricted.
The decision was made “based on an assessment of the information received and its impact on the Slovak road transport market.”
The main requirement of the Slovak carriers is the abolition of the “transport visa-free regime” in force between the European Union and Ukraine from July 1, 2023 (this removes the Ukrainian carriers from obtaining permit to operate in the EU market – ed).
We remind you that carriers from Poland continue to block the Ukrainian border in four directions. There are thousands of trucks in a queue in Poland waiting to leave for Ukraine.
Colleagues from Slovakia joined Polish carriers, blocking the Uzhgorod checkpoint on the Ukrainian border from December 1. On December 5, truck traffic resumed, but Slovak carriers threatened to continue the blockade if the situation with the elimination of the permit system for Ukrainian truckers is not resolved.
