The main factor in accelerating inflation was energy prices, which jumped in March by 44.7% in annual terms.
In the Eurozone countries, annual inflation rates continued to accelerate in March, exceeding analysts ’forecasts and updating the historical maximum for the fourth consecutive month. This was confirmed by preliminary data from the European Statistical Agency (Eurostat) on Friday, April 1.
Thus, consumer prices last month rose 7.5% compared to March 2021 after rising a revised 5.9% in February.
The main driver of the inflation acceleration was energy prices, which jumped in March by 44.7% in annual terms after rising 32% a month earlier against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
It will be recalled that the European Central Bank expects a slowdown in price growth since January and a reduction in inflation to less than 2% by the end of 2022.
