The facts were established by the sale of counterfeit money through exchange offices operating illegally in the capital.
Detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security discovered exchange offices in Kyiv selling fake dollars. These financial institutions operate illegally, the BEB press service reported.
“Specifically, at one of the currency exchange points, a group of people sold fake high-quality foreign currency for $1,500. The banknotes were of the old type, with a denomination of $100,” the report said.
This illegal exchanger was found thanks to an appeal from an injured consumer.
“During the searches, BEB detectives identified another exchange office, where they also sold fake currency. Moreover, it was found that the aforementioned exchange offices operated without the required permit, using the license from another company,” BEB said.
As a result of the searches, the employees of the Bureau got money in foreign and domestic currency, equipment and documentation worth more than 2 million hryvnias.

The pre-trial investigation continues under the article “Manufacturing, storing, importing into Ukraine for the purpose of use in the sale or distribution of counterfeit money” (Part 3 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). All persons involved in illegal activities have been identified.
Let’s recall that in August the Security Service, together with the BEB, conducted a special operation in three regions of Ukraine, as a result of which a strong group of counterfeiters who planned to sell 500 thousand counterfeit dollars in Kiev is neutralized.
In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained five people who were selling counterfeit dollars and illegally storing firearms and ammunition.
