Some EC officials believe that official Warsaw is not doing everything to solve the problem and stop the protest.
The European Commission may initiate sanctions proceedings against Poland if Warsaw does not resolve the problem of carriers blocking border crossings with Ukraine. This was reported by Polish radio RMF FM.
The EC said that the Polish authorities are obliged to ensure the flow of goods from Ukraine through the so-called “solidarity corridors”. According to EU law, Polish authorities must ensure the free movement of Ukrainian trucks at border crossings.
Some EC officials believe that the Polish authorities are not doing everything to solve the problem and stop the protest of Polish carriers.
From unofficial sources, RMF FM learned that the European Commission is considering the issue of the violation by the Polish authorities of the EU regulation on the liberalization of trade with Ukraine, which was recently extended until June 2024.
The European Commission must study the legal basis for launching a punitive procedure.
Officially, the EC does not want to comment on the measures that can be taken against the Polish authorities, as it ensures that the negotiations with Poland and Ukraine continue.
“The European Commission is still in contact with the authorities of both countries, we cannot comment on potential measures while discussions are ongoing,” the EC speaker emphasized.
We previously wrote that the queues for entry in front of the blocked checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border are 40 km long.
As you know, on November 6, a strike by Polish carriers began on the Polish-Ukrainian border, demanding the abolition of the transport visa-free regime for Ukraine.
Subsequently, on November 13, Ukraine held negotiations with Poland to lift the border blockade, but it was not possible to reach an agreement.
