Ship insurance was made possible thanks to cooperation with leading British companies in the field of reinsurance, the Ministry of Economy said.
The Cabinet of Ministers created a new mechanism for ensuring ships against war risks. This will significantly reduce existing insurance premiums for carriers exporting and importing to Ukraine by sea. The Ministry of Economy announced this on Wednesday, November 15.
“Ship insurance became possible thanks to the cooperation with the leading British reinsurance companies – MarshMcLennan and underwriters Lloyd’sofLondon through the launch of the UnityFacility mechanism. The total amount of coverage under this program is $50 million, ” said the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Sviridenko.
According to him, this decision, first of all, will have a positive impact on the work of grain traders. The new mechanism will reduce the cost of grain insurance by about 2.5% of the insurance tariff value, which will allow grain traders to save about 100-140 hryvnias per ton of cargo, and in general it will bring up to 4 billion hryvnias to agricultural producers.
According to the department, in the 2023-2024 marketing year, according to forecast calculations, it is planned to export about 50.7 million tons of grain. As of October 18, 2023, 7.9 million tons of grain were exported, of which 70% by sea.
As you know, in July Russia announced its withdrawal from the grain agreement and began to strike Ukrainian ports and grain infrastructure. On August 10, Ukraine opened temporary corridors for civilian commercial ships. Since then, 100 ships have been sent with various cargoes, not only agricultural products.
We remind you that on November 8, the Russians launched a missile attack on a ship entering a port in the Odessa region. The invaders fired Kh-31P anti-radar missiles.
The Liberian flagged ship is civilian. As a result of the enemy attack, the pilot (citizen of Ukraine) was killed and three crew members (citizens of the Philippines) were injured.
