Mike Pompeo has joined as a partner at Impact Investments, a newly launched advisory and investment firm based in the US.

Former US Secretary of State 2018-2021 Mike Pompeo has joined the board of directors of mobile operator Kyivstar as an independent non-executive director. This was announced on Tuesday, November 14, by the press service of VEON Ltd., which is the main shareholder of Kyivstar.

“As a one-time statesman, Pompeo joins as a partner at Impact Investments, a newly formed US-based strategic and financial advisory and investment firm that aims to build long-term partnerships with the world’s leading companies across multiple industries and geographies, ” said the statement.

At the same time, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu was appointed Chairman of Kyivstar’s Board of Directors.

Mike Pompeo served as the 70th Secretary of State of the United States from 2018 to 2021 during the presidency of Donald Trump. He also served as director of the CIA from 2017 to 2018. He previously represented Kansas in the US House of Representatives. He graduated from West Point Military Academy and received a doctorate from Harvard Law School.

Let’s recall that in early October the media reported that the seizure of assets of Russian oligarchs in Ukraine affected 100% of Kyivstar shares. Law enforcement suggested that the Russians control these parts through Dutch VEON Ltd.

And just three days later it became known that Kyivstar’s parent company VEON Ltd has left the Russian market for good.
