Navigation was closed on October 10 due to falling water levels in the Danube, the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company reported.
The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company has restored full navigation on the Middle Danube, where weather restrictions continued for almost a month. This was reported by the company’s press service.
Navigation was closed on October 10 due to low water levels in the Danube. UDP caravans were forced to load at a lower draft, which affected the volume of transport.
Heavy rains occurred in the Upper Danube basin. The water level gradually rises in the upper and then in the middle part of the river. Currently, the water levels across the Danube are working, the fleet is loaded with a full draft of 2.50-2.70 meters. We hope that these conditions will continue,” the press service stated today, November 7.
Thanks to the favorable conditions, the UDP is reported to be increasing the number of caravans in the Middle Danube.
In September, the company started a pilot project – our barge caravans deliver ore from Ukraine to Serbia, load grain on the way back and head to Constanta. The journey is long and difficult. However, this is an opportunity to work under long-term contracts and maximize fleet workload. The first UDP caravans with grain are on their way to Constanta, the report said.
It was previously reported that Romania is strengthening its air defense near the border with Ukraine on the Danube.
