Ukraine called on the FATF to blacklist Russia by funding the Wagner PMC, as well as strengthening its cooperation with Iran and North Korea.
The Intergovernmental Commission on Financial Monitoring (Financial Action Task Force – FATF) refused to include Russia in the “gray” or “black” lists, which would further isolate the economy of the aggressor country. This was reported in a FATF press release following the plenary meeting of the organization’s members, held in Paris on October 26-27.
“The suspension of membership of the Russian Federation remains in effect. Following statements issued since March 2022, the FATF reiterated that all jurisdictions should be vigilant regarding current and emerging risks of evasion measures taken against the Russian Federation to protect the international financial system,” the message said.
At the same plenary meeting, the FATF added Bulgaria to the list of jurisdictions subject to enhanced monitoring, or the so-called gray list. At the same time, Albania, the Cayman Islands, Jordan and Panama are not included here.
In addition, the FATF granted full membership to Indonesia.
Let’s recall that this week Ukraine once again called on the FATF to blacklist Russia by financing the Wagner PMC, as well as strengthening Moscow’s cooperation and arms trade with countries under UN sanctions and that – FATF blacklist – Iran and North Korea.
Let’s recall that in February of this year, FATF suspended Russia’s membership. The organization decided that Moscow’s actions unacceptably contradict the principles of strengthening the security, reliability and integrity of the global financial system.
