The Washington head coach apologized on Wednesday after citing the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, which killed five people as “dust.”
Jack Del Rio, the defense coordinator of the DC football team, commented at a press conference on Wednesday discussing the attack. His statement was followed by a tweet he posted in response to someone urging people to understand the “full story” of the attack on Thursday, Jan. 6, before the hearing:

At a press conference, Del Rio reiterated his concerns about the Black Lives Matter protest discussions and compared them to the discussions of the Jan. 6 uprising.
“I watch pictures on TV, people’s livelihoods are ruined, businesses are burning, there is no problem,” Del Rio said. “And then we have dust in the Capitol, nothing is burning and we’re going to make a big deal out of that. I just think these are two standards and if we use the same standard and are reasonable with each other, we talk. That’s all. Let’s talk. “

Del Rio, who previously coached the Auckland Raiders, defended Marshon Lynch after former President Donald Trump tweeted a complaint in 2017 about the player’s national anthem protest. The information was disseminated by Mercury News. In response to Trump’s tweet, Del Rio’s wife Linda said she voted for the president and regretted the decision.
