The police exposed an interregional criminal group that drained fuel worth 1.5 million hryvnias from the trains of Ukrzaliznytsia. This was reported by the press service of the National Police on Thursday, October 26.
The scheme was arranged by a 32-year-old resident of the Vinnytsia region, who involved his father, an officer on duty at one of the multi-unit diesel depots of Ukrzaliznytsia, here. Using his contacts with drivers and their assistants, Delok set up a “scheme” for stealing diesel fuel while locomotives were moving and parked at stations.
11 representatives of stations in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions were involved in the criminal scheme, mainly locomotive drivers and their assistants. The organizer controls all the actions of his “subordinates” and distributes “profit” to them.
During one outing, the attackers threw up to three tons of diesel fuel. The stolen goods were taken to temporary storage areas and looked for clients, where they sold them for cash: a liter for 42 Hryvnias, which is 15% less than the market value.
In order to hide their criminal activities, they entered false data in official documents about the amount of fuel used, and also interfered with the operation of the engine, which allowed them to save fuel consumption.
According to preliminary estimates, companies earned more than 1.5 million hryvnias from fuel theft, which led to corresponding losses for Ukrzaliznytsia.
Based on the results of a complex procedural steps, the police collected evidence of the involvement of all 11 people in criminal activities. Investigators conducted warrant searches of the defendants’ residences.
The attackers were charged with robbery committed by an organized group and under martial law. Preventive measures were chosen for all the suspects, six of whom were placed in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of assets.
We remind you that a large-scale scheme for illegal production and sale of fuel has been eliminated in Transcarpathia. A deputy of the regional council, the godfather of Viktor Medvedchuk, who is suspected of treason, is involved in this.
