French journalists visited Zaporizhstal of the Metinvest group and the ArcelorMittal plant in Krivoy Rog.
The main problems in the work of Ukrainian metallurgical plants are logistics and the constant threat of missiles: the export of products is complicated by Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea ports and shelling of the Danube port of Izmail, where workers are afraid to work under the gun of Moscow. It is stated in the material of the French news agency AFP, that journalists visited Zaporizhstal of the Metinvest group and the ArcelorMittal plant in Krivoy Rog.
“Last month, Metinvest managed to send cargo to three ships that have been stuck in Black Sea ports since the start of the war, but ship owners are afraid to send more ships,” he wrote of AFP, adding that Metinvest is hoping for an alternative Black Sea route that Ukraine is testing.
French journalists note that ArcelorMittali also admitted that in “extremely difficult conditions” they created an “alternative logistics scheme” for the plant. If previously the plant exported 85% of finished products mainly to the Middle East and Africa, now most of them go to Europe.
“The volume of production at ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog is insignificant compared to pre-war times. But the steel of the plants will be needed later – for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war,” AFP pointed out.

Journalists point out: such metallurgical plants are key to the Ukrainian economy and production support. It is their work, even in reduced capacity, that indicates the sustainability of the industry.
“Since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainian metallurgical industry, located mainly in the front-line regions, has been losing factories, personnel, suppliers and access to very important export hubs. These losses contribute to understand the calculations of the World Bank, according to which the economy of Ukraine suffered huge losses in the amount of $411 billion in the first year of the war,” the publication wrote.
Let’s recall that earlier it was known that Ukraine, since the beginning of the temporary humanitarian corridor, exported about 90 thousand tons of metal products and more than 172 thousand tons of iron ore raw materials. Bulk carriers Primus, Anna Theresa, Ocean Courtesy, Puma and Ying Hao 01 brought products from Azovstal, Zaporizhstal, Kametstal and ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog iron and steel plant, as well as iron ore from Metinvest Group.
