Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerry has been an outspoken supporter of gun control, recently punishing senators for failing to take reasonable security measures.
But in the second game of the NBA Finals on Sunday – after the Texas massacre in Buffalo, New York and Waldens gave way to a series of mass shootings – the coach boosted his activism.
Wearing an orange T-shirt on End of Violence Violence at a pre-match press conference, Kerr called for “proven laws pending adoption” that limit gun deaths, including background checks.
Informing people about gun violence prevention groups is another way, but “the most important thing, I think, is to vote,” he said.
Kerr said, “While most people in this country want to introduce gun safety measures, many (congressional) bids are decided by people who are less supportive of any kind of gun safety measure.
“Come out and vote,” he said. “It’s the only way to convince people that we need to convince.”
