“The Federal Cartel Office does not object to the creation of a joint venture between the German defense company Rheinmetall and the Ukrainian state company Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI). The new company will manufacture and service military equipment in Ukraine,” said Mundt
He noted that in Germany the project would not lead to any competitive copying or any sign of competition concerns.
“We quickly gave our consent,” the official added.
It was previously reported that Rheinmetall intends to build a tank plant in Ukraine. The head of the company, Armin Papperger, said that for 200 million euros it is possible to build a business that will produce up to 400 Panther tanks per year.
It was also reported that Ukroboronprom and Rheinmetall will create a joint venture that will begin production of Fuchs armored personnel carriers.
