The country’s government has approved proposals for the next package of anti-Russian sanctions by the European Union. Tallinn believes that any trade with Moscow is inappropriate.
The Estonian government has approved proposals for the twelfth package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation, including the introduction of a full trade embargo. This is what the country’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on September 28, Postimees reports.
He noted that in a situation where Russia continues its illegal aggression against Ukraine and the world order based on international law, it is necessary to further strengthen sanctions against the Kremlin.
“The government has approved Estonia’s position regarding the 12th package of sanctions of the European Union, for which we will immediately begin to seek support from EU member states and like-minded partners,” informed stressed the head of the Foreign Ministry.
According to Tsahkna, Tallinn will demand that the new package of EU sanctions include a full embargo on trade with Russia, as any trade with Moscow is inappropriate.
He also clarified that the country also approved alternative measures to tighten the sanctions, in particular, the ban on the transit of goods subject to sanctions and a sharper reduction in revenues from energy exports of Russia.
Let’s recall that on September 8, the head of the Estonian government Kaja Kallas proposed to introduce a joint trade embargo against Russia with the participation of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland.
