Sowing started on time, but due to the drought they were forced to stop it, and now the department is considering two scenarios: positive and negative.
In the Odessa region, the sowing of winter wheat was suspended due to drought. Alla Stoyanova, head of the agricultural food department of Odessa OVA, spoke about this, reports Suspilne.
Sowing started on time, but they were forced to pause it, and now the department is considering two scenarios: positive and negative.
“If we receive any little rain in two weeks, then sowing will continue. If there is no rain, we cannot expect even the average indicators in 2024,” said Stoyanova.
According to Stoyanova, about 3% of agricultural producers in the region risk sowing grain on dry land. However, no one knows if it will sprout.
Stoyanova also reported that winter rapeseed died due to drought. We are talking about ten thousand hectares.
“Odessa region started the sowing campaign first. They began to sow winter rapeseed. In conditions of insufficient moisture, seedlings will appear only in fields with irrigation or using moisture-saving technologies. In everything else, the rapeseed dies,” said the director of the department. of agricultural food.
Stoyanova noted that this summer was the hottest in the entire history of independent Ukraine, and, according to climatologists, seven of the next ten years in Ukraine will be dry.
It was previously reported that farmers are using more than 120 thousand hectares of cleared land.
