The law firm “Ilyashev and Partners”, representing the interests of the Fencing Federation of Ukraine (FFU), filed a complaint against the International Fencing Federation (FIE) with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This was reported by the press service of Ilyashev and Partners Law Firm.
The Ukrainian Fencing Federation states that the FIE has ignored several complaints and appeals sent to it regarding the participation of Russian and Belarusian fencers in international competitions. Due to the FIE’s inaction and ignoring numerous requests that violate the Olympic Charter and the IOC Code of Ethics, the Ukrainian Fencing Federation filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee.
According to the Ilyashev and Partners Law Firm, in June 2023, the company prepared and submitted a disciplinary complaint to the FIE regarding the expulsion of the Russian Fencing Federation from its membership. The so-called regional “fencing federation” in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the city of Sevastopol and Crimea are included in the Fencing Federation of the Russian Federation. This complaint has not been reviewed by FIE.
The Fencing Federation of Ukraine is asking the International Olympic Committee to pay attention to the actions of the International Fencing Federation aimed at returning Russian and Belarusian fencers to participation in international competitions, Law Firm Ilyashev and Partners explained. The FFU said that the FIE does not conduct a proper analysis of the involvement of fencers in the Russian/Belarusian armed forces and other security forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus, nor does it take into account the support of such fencers for the invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, especially in social networks.
Legal support for the Ukrainian Fencing Federation is provided by the law firm “Ilyashev and Partners” pro bono.
It was previously reported that the law firm “Ilyashev and Partners” represented the Fencing Federation of Ukraine at the Court of Arbitration for Sports and the District Court of Lausanne, where the FFU appealed the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) of March 10, 2023 to renew the entry of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions under the auspices of the FIE as part of the qualifications for the 2024 Olympic Games.
