Breaking the sea blockade of ships with Ukrainian steel is the first step towards the complete unblocking of sea exports, the company said.
For the first time since the beginning of a large-scale war, three ships with products of Ukrainian metallurgists managed to break through the naval blockade set by Russia. This was stated by the head of the project office of the General Director of Metinvest Group, Alexander Vodoviz, the company’s press service reported the previous day.

It is indicated that on board the ships that left the ports of Odessa and Yuzhny, there were more than 76 thousand tons of combined metal products produced by Azovstal, Zaporizhstal, Kametstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, as well as 172 thousand tons of iron ore concentrate produced in the mining and processing complex of the Metinvest group.
It was possible to free the ships from a year and a half captivity thanks to the joint efforts of the Office of the President, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other involved law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
“Breaking the naval blockade of ships with Ukrainian steel is a historic moment, the first step towards the complete unblocking of sea exports for the entire range of Ukrainian products: fertilizers, metals, ore, food, sugar, equipment, etc. And , therefore, in an accelerated economic recovery of Ukraine, which suffered enormous losses, especially due to the illegal blockade of the ports of Ukraine by the Russian Federation,” said Vodoviz.
According to him, the complete unblocking of ports for all types of cargo will bring additional tens of billions of dollars of foreign exchange earnings per year to the Ukrainian economy, hundreds of billions of hryvnias of additional revenues to tax in the state budget, and hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians – jobs and stable income in the family budget.
Recall that in August, the ships Primus, Anna Theresa and Ocean Courtesy left the ports of Odessa and Yuzhny, which have been blocked in Ukrainian ports since February 24, 2022. These ships became the second, third and the fourth ship, respectively, which left Ukrainian ports after the termination of the grain agreements.
It was previously reported that unblocking the ports would give Ukraine 10% of GDP. At the same time, while Ukraine lost more than 60% of trade due to the blockade of ports, Russia increased trade in 2022.
