The NAPC included the Chinese group of companies Alibaba Group Holding Limited in the list of international sponsors of the war.
The Chinese Alibaba Group Holding Limited, which owns AliExpress, has been listed as an international sponsor of the war as it continues to operate in Russia. In particular, it provides its platforms for the sale of goods from copper exported from the occupied territories of Ukraine. This was announced on August 17 by the National Anti-Corruption Agency.
It is noted that the AliExpress trading platform is very popular in Russia. It is operated by Alibaba’s Russian subsidiary Alibaba.COM(RU), which is owned by Singapore-registered Aliexpress Russia Holding Private Ltd.
In 2023, the company continues to work in Russia, providing an international platform for the sale of foreign goods. Alibaba.COM(RU) profit for 2022 reached 16.3 billion rubles (about $160 million).
At the same time, according to Reuters, Alibaba’s platforms sell goods made from illegally obtained copper alloy from the Debaltseve Metallurgical Machine Building Plant located in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine’s Donetsk region.
NAPC said Alibaba restricts Ukrainian content on its platforms. In March 2022, a group of Chinese companies blocked a Ukrainian streamer for reporting on the war. At the same time, pro-Russian messages on the platform are not deleted.
“All these facts may indicate that the company supports Russia’s aggression not only financially, by paying taxes, but also ideologically,” the agency added.
Recall that in early March, the media reported that AliExpress blocked the sale of drones from DJI and Autel to customers from Russia.
Currently, 31 companies are included in the list of international war sponsors. Most of them are Chinese companies.
