Despite widespread unrest, some shipowners refused to let their ships pass through Danube ports.
The strike by the Russian Federation on the port infrastructure of the Danube ports, including the port of Izmail, which took place on the night of August 2, led to an increase in rates for the transportation of agricultural products by coasters and barge from the ports of Sina Reni and Izmail. It was noted that on August 03, 2023, freight rates for the transportation of corn and wheat by 6,000 t coasters from the ports of Reni and Izmail increased by 7 USD/t in the following directions: the eastern Mediterranean – up to 50-52 USD/t, east coast of Greece – up to 46-47 USD/t, Crete – up to 49-51 USD/t, Israel – up to 55-57 USD/t. Italian east coast freight increased by 3 USD/t to 53-55 USD/t. Rates for transportation to Spain increased by 2 USD/t to 58-60 USD/t.
Freight for the transportation of rapeseed and barley by 7,000 t coasters in the ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Ghent increased by 3-5 USD/t to 85-88 USD/t.
Freight rates for transportation of sunflower meal by coasters increased by about 10 USD/t. For granulated product they are 53-55 USD/t in Marmara, 65-67 USD/t on the east coast of Italy, 70-72 USD/t in Spain. Freight rates for non-granular products are higher by 3 USD/t.
Freight rates for the transportation of rapeseed meal (stw up to 65) by coasters in Spain reached 82 USD/t. Last week, the maximum figure was 80 USD/t.
Freight for the transportation of rapeseed and barley by barges to Constanta increased by 4 EUR/t, up to 47 EUR/t, wheat and corn – by 2-3 EUR/t, up to 40-41 EUR/t.
The freight for the transport of granulated sunflower meal in Constanta increased by 5 EUR/t to 50 EUR/t.
Additionally, some ship owners refused to allow their vessels to call at Danube ports.
Recall that as a result of the night attack of Russian aggressors on the port of Izmail in the Odessa region and the infrastructure of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company, 40,000 tons of grain were destroyed on Wednesday night.
