Due to NEURC’s unwillingness to support the position of the Energy Community, a temporary solution was proposed.
The Secretariat of the EU Energy Community supported Ukraine’s complete elimination of price restrictions on the electricity market (price-cap, – ed.). Valery Tarasyuk, a member of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities (NCREKU), announced this at an open meeting of the regulator on June 26.
According to him, the electricity producers, NPC Ukrenergo, the market operator and the Secretariat of the EU Energy Community spoke in favor of the complete abolition of the price-cap. But now the majority of the commission does not agree with this approach.
Considering the unwillingness of the state regulator to support the position of the Energy Community, Tarasyuk proposed a temporary solution – to set higher price caps, which would make it possible to import electricity from the European Union during peak consumption times.
Recall that on May 31, the state regulator canceled price restrictions on the electricity market from June 30. This decision was supported by market participants and international organizations.
On May 30, the Cabinet of Ministers almost doubled electricity tariffs for the population, to UAH 2.64/kWh.
