There is no risk for lack of grain for domestic purposes, assured Taras Vysotsky.
The grain harvest in Ukraine this year is expected to be about 46 million tons, or 5-7% less than last year. This is what First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said on the air of the telethon on Monday, June 26.
“For now, the forecast is a weighted average: it is expected that about 46 million tons of grain will be harvested. This, unfortunately, is less than last year. The decrease is about 5-7%,” he said.
At the same time, Vysotsky noted that the domestic consumption of grain does not exceed 18 million tons.
“Therefore, even with the harvest of 46 million tons, it is still two and a half times more than the domestic demand, so there is no risk for a lack of grain for domestic purposes today,” he stressed.
It will be recalled that in mid-March, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy predicted a reduction in the collection of grains and legumes to 44.3 million tons against 53.1 million tons of the previous period.
Also last week it was learned that Ukraine has started harvesting grain in two regions.
