It is indicated that Ukraine’s energy initiative was launched by the United Nations Global Compact. Its task, in particular, is to direct the flow of international capital to finance the processes of recovery and innovation in the Ukrainian energy sector, to stimulate and accelerate the development of sustainable energy in our country.
The World Bank estimates that a short-term reconstruction of the industry will require $5.7 billion, and a full recovery in 2033 – up to $47 billion.
To survive next winter, Ukraine needs additional generating capacity. DTEK alone needs $150 million to repair five thermal power plants (TPP) and another $27 million to restore networks.
“Ukraine is facing the biggest energy challenge among European countries since World War II. A global coalition of public and private partners can accelerate the recovery and modernization of our energy industry and, on their part, revive Ukraine after a devastating war,” said Maksim , CEO of DTEK. Timchenko at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London.
Ukraine has the potential to be a critical partner for Europe in its transition to a net zero carbon future and end the continent’s dependence on Russia, he said.
In addition to participating in the Ukraine Energy Initiative, DTEK is a member of the new Ukraine Business Compact, a joint initiative between the UK and Ukrainian governments to provide international businesses with a platform to demonstrate support for Ukraine’s recovery . The Ukraine Energy Initiative should be an industry forum within the broader structure of the Business Agreement.
Earlier, DTEK said Ukraine could export 15 GW of clean energy. Our country can make a major contribution to Europe’s post-war energy security.
And President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine should be a leader in the development of modern “green” energy, as well as a hub for exporting “green” electricity and hydrogen to the EU.
