From June 15, the Georgian airline will launch transit flights in Tbilisi to Europe for Russian citizens.
Georgian airline Georgian Airways wants to launch transit flights for Russian citizens to European countries next month. The founder of the company, Tamaz Gaiashvili, told RTVI about it.
According to him, flights are planned to five European cities – Paris, Vienna, Milan, Thessaloniki and Larnaca.
“Let’s start on June 15. Let’s see how this thing goes. But we think there will be enough demand on these routes. It will be more convenient and faster in Tbilisi than in other directions,” said of the founder of Georgian Airways.
Gaiashvili also noted that the passenger flow between Georgia and Russia will recover over time.
“Definitely, we will maintain air communication with Russia. Nothing can be done about it. The Georgian government very welcomed this decision. God forbid that it never be interrupted again,” he added.
Remember, on May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing Georgian citizens to visit Russia without issuing a visa for up to 90 days. In addition, he lifted the ban on flights by Russian airlines and the sale of tours to Georgia. On May 19, the first plane from Russia since 2019 arrived in Georgia.
Georgian Airways is one of the Georgian airlines that has continued direct flights to Russia.
As you know, since February 28, 2022, the European Union, as part of the sanctions against Russia, has closed the skies for Russian aircraft.
