Last week alone, 1,266.9 thousand hectares were planted with rice and leguminous crops. The Poltava region is among the leaders – 179.2 thousand hectares.
About 3.6 million hectares of spring grain crops were sown in Ukraine. This was announced by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on Friday, May 12.
It was mentioned that in the first half of May, farmers sow:

spring wheat – 246.6 thousand hectares;

spring barley – 736.7 thousand hectares;

peas – 131.1 thousand hectares;

oats – 141 thousand hectares;
-
corn – 2,265.8 thousand hectares;
-
buckwheat – 8.34 thousand hectares;
-
millet – 10.9 thousand hectares;
-
other cereals and legumes – 46.92 thousand hectares.
Over the past week, a total of 1,266.9 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops were sown, with Poltava region being the leader of agricultural producers – 179.2 thousand hectares.
Sugar beet was sown on 204.8 thousand hectares, mainly in the Vinnitsa region – 52 thousand hectares. In total, this crop is sown by farmers in 14 regions.
Sunflower is sown in all regions, now sown – 2725.6 thousand hectares, the Poltava region is the leader – 357.10 thousand hectares.
Sowing of soybeans was done in 22 regions, 748.8 thousand hectares were sown, farmers of Ternopil region sowed the most – 100.10 thousand hectares.
It was previously reported that by 2023 the sown area in Ukraine will decrease by 7 million hectares – to 29 million hectares – and will change its structure.
It is also predicted that this year the total yield of grain crops in Ukraine will decrease by 60% in 2021, oilseeds – by 15%.
