Ukraine will help Europe abandon Russia’s coal consumption and reduce Russia’s gas consumption, the Prime Minister said.
Until the end of the year, Ukraine plans to expand the possibilities of energy companies to export electricity to the European Union. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a government meeting on Tuesday, May 24.
He recalled that in mid-March Ukraine joined the European ENTSO-E network ahead of schedule and was already exporting its electricity to Europe.
According to Shmyhal, electricity exports to Poland increased by 35% in April compared to January before the war.
“By the end of the year, we plan to expand the capabilities of Ukrainian energy companies, and we will be able to export about 800 MW of electricity per day to the EU. This will help Europe abandon Russia’s coal consumption. and reduce Russia’s gas consumption, ”the Prime Minister said.
It was previously learned that Ukraine offers electricity to Europe in exchange for gas. Such supplies will also help offset the deficit in the Ukrainian budget, says President Volodymyr Zelensky.
