Prague has succeeded in overcoming dependence on Russian blue fuel, the government said.
The Czech Republic for the first time refused to supply Russian natural gas in the first annual quarter. This was announced on April 21 by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic, Josef Sikela.
“For the first time in modern history, we were able to do without gas supplies from Russia for the entire first quarter of the year. Within a year, we went from almost 100% dependence to zero. I don’t know of any other European countries can do this,” he stressed.
According to the minister, in the first three months of the year, gas is supplied to the republic exclusively from Norway, and liquefied gas – by sea through Belgium and the Netherlands. All transit is carried out through the territory of Germany.
In the past, the country received Russian gas in transit through Slovakia.
In total, in the first quarter of 2023, the Czech Republic received 1.71 billion cubic meters. m of gas.
