high temperatures that remain in the country, leave in uncertainty shoe textile manufacturers because they do not know whether to prepare for the autumn-winter season.
According to Lima Chamber of Commerce.
“In mid-autumn, the heat continues with temperatures from 25 to 28 degrees, which is why meeps paralyze sales of winter clothes and shoes. By now we should be offering jackets, coats, blankets and fleece, leather shoes, boots, etc.,” said CCL Small Business Guild (COPE) President Rodolfo Ojeda.
Temporary job at risk
According to Ojeda, there were plans to hire temporary staff for this campaign; however, the situation and economic losses could result in contract cuts.
“This issue affects 50% of temporary employment for this campaign, which means about 2,500 workers are hired. Given the economic uncertainty and lack of liquidity, the MIPs cannot hire more staff,” he stressed.
It is worth noting that the textile and footwear industries together make up 45% of the total of these business units, which are in complete uncertainty due to zero demand for winter clothing and footwear.
Aggressive promotions and discounts
The Chamber of Commerce warned that the situation is forcing manufacturers to constantly sell their products in order to return even the capital they have invested to date.
“In the meantime, in order not to continue to lose (in sales), it makes the most sense for some mypes to decide to expand into summer clothing such as cotton polo shirts, shorts, blouses, etc.,” he commented.
