A family in Maine is mourning the death of their teenage son, who was killed after they dug his sister a hole off the coast of New Jersey and fell into the sand.
18-year-old Levi Caverley and his 17-year-old were on a family vacation on the River Thoms on Tuesday when the siblings decided to use Frisbee for a 10-foot-long pit that collapsed. The tragic accident happened around 4 pm. ABC news channel WPVI reported.
“[The] “Teenagers were reportedly digging a large grave when it collapsed and both were trapped,” the Tom River Police Department wrote on Facebook.
The brothers were buried a few meters under the sand; Levi Caverley was completely submerged and buried next to her and in her breasts.
Ambulance teams worked long hours from Tom River and nearby towns to rescue the boys using water buckets, ladders, bulldozers and other heavy equipment. The 17-year-old was rescued and treated on the spot, but Levy Caverley died as a result of the fall. His body was found at 7 p.m.
The teenage mother, Angela Caverley, told NJ.com That her daughter is working “well” physically.
“This is our first case [in Toms River]. “We came here to experience a family vacation,” he said, adding that he doesn’t regret going to New Jersey. “Neither. You can’t change that. “
Angela Caverley said her son played drums in the band and taught programming himself.
Tom River Mayor Maurice b. Moe Hill said in a statement that the incident happened during the “off-season,” otherwise there would have been rescuers who would often prevent people from digging deep holes in the beach.
