The United States announces a sharp decline in technology exports from China to Russia

China’s laptop shipments to Russia fell 40% in March from February, while smartphone exports dropped by two-thirds.

Exports of technological goods from China to Russia fell sharply in March after the entry into force of US sanctions. This was said by US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, reported by The Washington Post yesterday.

This is a sign of Beijing’s caution about violating U.S. trade restrictions, he said.

Thus, Chinese deliveries of laptops to Russia in March dropped by 40% compared to February, and exports of smartphones dropped by two-thirds. In addition, exports of telecommunications network equipment dropped by 98%.

U.S. export bans do not include blocking the sale of consumer goods such as smartphones and laptops to Russia. But some Chinese companies have completely stopped delivering electronic goods to Russia, the newspaper wrote.

It was noted that Beijing did not intend to violate the rules for fear of retaliation by U.S. sanctions, which could include limiting the sale of the technology to Chinese companies.

According to Raimondo, technological exports to Russia from various countries have fallen sharply. Shipments from the United States of technical categories subject to export control dropped by 86%, from South Korea – by 62%, from Finland – by 60%.

It was previously reported that Japan has banned the export of high-tech equipment to Russia. The prohibited list includes 3D printers and quantum computing equipment, including quantum computers.
