From today, March 31, use unique password to carry out procedures related to mobile service, the Agency for Supervision of Private Investments in Telecommunications (Osiptel) reported.
The use of this password will be required in three types formalities: Connecting an additional mobile phone line, changing the mobile chip or changing the owner of the mobile phone service.
This additional security mechanism is used to verify the identity of subscribers when entering into an additional line contract, changing a chip, or changing the owner of a mobile service.
With this unique password, the goal is to avoid fraud related to mobile connectionsuch as identity theft and unwanted recruitment, with over 10,000 ownership issues reported last year alone.
“In the same year, the four largest operating companies also filed 77,597 subscriber claims for unsolicited mobile service contracts,” says Osiptel.
Companies are already required to supply it unique passwordwhich does not replace biometric verification, and inform your subscribers about its use.
How to generate my password?
Osiptel indicates that this key is only delivered in face-to-face carrier service channels or approved applications.
For example, companies Bitel, Entel and Movistar are authorized to generate the key through self-management applications (such as Mi Bitel) and self-activation (such as Movistar Chip Activation and Entel Chip Activation).
The extension and characteristics of this password must be defined by each operator, and in order to generate it, you can send a link to the e-mail that the subscriber has provided earlier, or a text message (SMS) to all new contract mobile lines.
“It is important to note that if a person is the owner of one or more mobile communication lines in one operator company, he will receive only a unique password. If subscribers do not have unique password or want to restore it, they must request it from their operating company, which will indicate the procedure to follow and its active channels,” says Osiptel.
Please be aware that if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the regulator via FonoAyuda 1844.
